Workshops for children
Picture on the left: Results of the workshops. In cooperation with the Municipal Educational Department of Vitoria-Gasteiz Council, the Santa María Cathedral Foundation organizes educational visits for schoolchildren to Santa María Cathedral. These visits happen outside of the regular scheduled tours, and their structure and timetable are different. They begin with a themed tour according to the school year that the children are in (portico, stained glass windows, the cottages of Vitoria-Gasteiz, city walls, sentry walks, commercial city, Cathedral,...) and end with a series of workshops which match the tour.
The materials used are adapted to each school age between 1st and 6th grades of primary education, and present in a fun way a series of themes regarding history, archaeology, architecture, art... related to the city and the restoration works that are being carried out on Santa María Cathedral in Vitoria Gasteiz.
These visits are also supported by audiovisual educational materials that have been made to that effect: 5 power point presentations (one per workshop) and a DVD for the itinerary that the 6th grade students follow. On this DVD, participants are led through different explanations by Laia, a girl who decides to explore the Cathedral.
